NAWIC Richmond Chapter 141 was created on May 27, 1967, at The Jefferson Hotel with 40 charter members. Chapter 141 was incorporated in 1969 as a nonprofit corporation.
The Richmond, Virginia Chapter is a part of the South Atlantic Region (formerly known as Region 11). The South Atlantic Region encompasses Western and Central Virginia (Roanoke Valley, Richmond, and Greater Tidewater), North Carolina (Durham, Raleigh, Piedmont, Charlotte, Asheville, Fayetteville, Greater Greenville), and South Carolina (Greenville, Columbia, and Palmetto Chapter). Richmond is one of the largest chapters in our Region. We currently meet at the Embassy Suites Hotel on Emerywood Parkway on the 3rd Tuesday of each month.
The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) has more than 115 chapters across the country, and offers its members education, support, and networking to help advance their careers in construction, build their technical skills, and become leaders.
All women working in construction are eligible for membership, including women builders in the trades, project management, marketing, administration, and executive leadership. In addition, women in related industries who work on construction-related business, such as finance, legal, and other complementary industries, are welcome as well.
Our members include some of the most accomplished women in our profession, many of whom credit NAWIC with helping them advance their careers and grow as individuals and as leaders.

our HISTORY
Our Beginning
This Chapter was established largely due to the efforts of Margaret Watkins of the Richmond Builders’ Exchange. Eva Poling was the installing National Officer, and her Chapter, Greater Washington, DC Chapter #67, in Region One, was our sponsoring Chapter. Chapter 141 was incorporated in 1969 as a nonprofit corporation. The Richmond Chapter celebrated its 50th Anniversary on April 28, 2017, at The Jefferson – back where it all began.
Our Purpose
Today, NAWIC provides its members with opportunities for professional development, education, networking, leadership training, public service and more. Our purpose is to strengthen and amplify the success of women in the construction industry.
Today
Today, our chapter provides educational opportunities for both members and non-members through various onsite construction tours, providing opportunities to learn about construction firsthand from experts in the field. Our chapter also participates in many programs that promote our industry to students at both the high school, middle school and elementary school levels of education. Giving back to the community has always been a high priority with our chapter and each year we conduct Civic Programs that provide assistance to the Richmond community.
Looking Ahead
The Richmond 141 Chapter of NAWIC strives to be an integral part of the construction community as well as the community at large in the city of Richmond and surrounding counties. Our members are respected in both the construction industry and throughout Richmond.
